So Fresh!

There is nothing quite like a fresh fruit from a street vendor to sate that sweet craving everyone gets now and then. Fruits make the best snacks, they are full of energy and relatively healthy. However, in The US (at least Texas...) it is very hard to find fresh fruits (maybe in California...). I will say, that you don't know what a mango is until you have eaten a fresh one from a sub-tropical to tropical climate like Brazil, or India. Nothing beats the sweet juices and soft consistency.

The grapes are just for extra show, in the US you can find pretty good usually imported grapes.

Start the Morning Right!

People say that breakfast is the most important meal. However in today's busy lifestyle it is hard to sit down and enjoy a good nutritional breakfast. That is why when we can, we should take full advantage of the opportunity handed to us. In my vacation time in Sao Paulo I often times get opportunities like that. This is such an example.

A mixed fruit and veggie juice, a bowl of granola and milk, with a mini baguette with mozzarella and strawberry jam. When you start a day like this, things are bound to go well!

Moonstruck!

Moonstruck dinner will strike quite a blow to your appetite. The menu offers up a great variety of options, from a great on paper breakfast menu to full sized entrees. The portions are BIG. A sandwich here easily goes for two meals, unless you are really hungry. Don't believe me, look down just a little.

Grilled chicken, caramelized onions, covered in melted mozzarella cheese on a french baguette. With crispy on the outside and soft on the inside fries... If it wasn't for its monstrous size you wouldn't be able to stop until it was all but gone.

This is the last post from NYC. Stay tuned for delicacies from down south as I write about my gastronomic ventures in São Paulo, Brazil.

It's Acceptable to Drool

Oh My French Toast!
26 Beach Restaurant, thank you so much. This place has one of the best Brunch menus that I have ever seen. The restaurant is quite small and if you plan on enjoying their wonderful brunch selection it is recommended that you make reservations, especially if you are one to wake up kinda hungry. Their portions are huge. I got the Caramel Macchiato French Toast. Heavenly stuff.

This thing is everything you expect it to be. The toast is soft as a sponge, and yet not soggy. The espresso sauce is a decently strong coffee liquor so I suggest you try it before pouring it on. The hardest part of this post was holding myself back from devouring this beauty long enough to take a picture.

Alas, Hunger Broke my Fast

After fasting for about 10 hours I woke up quite hungry so I went for a complete breakfast...

It's hard to find a good mango but that one was juicy sweet. As the main course I chose a salami/Havarti sandwich with and a strawberry jam dessert.

Now that's something worth getting up for.

Morning Rush

People these days often find themselves in a bit of a rush. That leads to cutting corners (meals), which lead to rounder edges, and not in a good way. A filling and balanced diet is essential to a healthy lifestyle. Strangely enough, if you don't eat enough, you will gain fat. By eating very little, you only trick your body into trying to preserve every ounce of energy it gets by slowing down metabolism and creating energy stores (fat). This is why it is so easy to gain back the pounds lost by dieting. To avoid cutting corners I suggest fast ready to eat foods. Fruits almost always come ready to eat which make them ideal compliments to quick meals or snacks, but if you are looking for something more wholesome try a power-bar or a muffin from a local bakery. Speaking of muffins...

Perfect, or should I say Parfait!

I'm not going to lie. My brother introduced me to the deliciousness of yogurt, but since that fateful day I have made my fair contribution diminishing dairy stocks all around the world. Mostly in the form of parfait consumption. This is my most recent venture into "perfection".

Two peach halves, lots of granola, and a healthy serving of honeyed Greek yogurt. This is a very satisfying breakfast meal, and takes no time at all to prepare.

Merci, Bon appétit!

Brunch Anyone?

After a long Friday night partying like crazy working, there is nothing better then sleeping in late and then going out for a great brunch.

This particular weekend I was thinking 3 eggs, spinach, Swiss cheese, bacon bits with a side of toasted English muffin.

Oh yes...

If you are wondering, its a chipotle salsa in that little silver container.

Compliments of H&H

Belgian Waffles from Belgium?!

Ja! Ja! apparently that is how you say yes in Dutch.

So I was strolling along this imported foods market in Houston called the Phoenicia, when I spotted this frozen Belgium Waffle box. The box looked nice so I went for it, always judge a book by its cover, right?

Here is another cover for them...

Worth every penny. Of course I took the liberty to add a few strawberries and some vanilla ice cream, just for presentation purposes of course.

What is Panettone?

It's delicious from what I can tell. If you are looking for a more scholarly explanation here is the wiki for it. Now the version of it that I eat has chocolate chips instead of the traditional dried fruits. This cake/bread with butter is good, but add a small bit of nutella and... well just try it for yourself.

This was my warm up breakfast before I hit the gym... YES! I redeemed myself.
