Moonstruck!

Moonstruck dinner will strike quite a blow to your appetite. The menu offers up a great variety of options, from a great on paper breakfast menu to full sized entrees. The portions are BIG. A sandwich here easily goes for two meals, unless you are really hungry. Don't believe me, look down just a little.

Grilled chicken, caramelized onions, covered in melted mozzarella cheese on a french baguette. With crispy on the outside and soft on the inside fries... If it wasn't for its monstrous size you wouldn't be able to stop until it was all but gone.

This is the last post from NYC. Stay tuned for delicacies from down south as I write about my gastronomic ventures in São Paulo, Brazil.

Shake Shack!

WOW! This place is awesome!
It's in a park and there is no indoor sitting. This gives it a unique setting, however this is not so agreeable in freezing temperatures. Despite the cold we ventured out in our coats to feast on greasy unhealthy deliciousness!

I believe this is called a double stack or something of the sort. It is a normal burger with their version of the vegetarian patty added onto the mixture. This veggie patty consist of portobello mushrooms on top of a fried cheese patty of a unmatched cheesiness deliciousness. This place also serves up a great chocolate and vanilla shake, which your biggest complaint will be that it eventually ends. The fries are ok, but I imagine the cheese fries are great. I have already made plans to go back and to order these... Oh and yes don't go here if you don't agree with the blog title.

Into the Rabbit Hole

The only place showing the Texans game in mid December in NYC was a bar going down some shady stairs, through a dark hallway and into a basement bar. Then again NY is known for having interesting (for lack of a better word) locations for some of their bars.

I have to go back to find out the name of the bar, but it was pretty darn good. I got a bacon and egg cheese burger. Above average fare for a basement bar in my opinion. The fries were surprisingly good and very crisp. The internet is getting better, so I think the post will start rolling in daily again.

Lazy as a Dog

I will make a confession. I could eat a burger everyday and be totally ok with it though not with the fat I'd gain. Today we have the Lazy Dog Cafe burger. A pretty standard burger for an american restaurant.

It is both big and filling, and make you feel like a lazy dog afterwards. If you want a good american sit down restaurant, and you feel like getting a burger this is a good place to start. Don't expect to be blown away by it. Not pictured, the potato hush puppies and the mediterranean pizzetti are very good. Oh and lest we forget, they also offer a pretty delicious apple pie, so don't eat like a pig dog and save up some room.

Sausage Feast

Portillo's is a Chicago based hot dog and other stadium type food restaurant. Its one of those quick, but not really fast food dinner types. Tonight I got a standard hot dog (left) and a polish dog (I liked this sausage better). Not pictured is their chocolate cake milkshake. Yes they drop a piece of brownie into a vanilla shake, yes it was good, and yes it was thick and very filling.

For the price it's pretty good, however it is just a loaded hot dog. You won't miss out by skipping this place, unless you are a fan of cheap sausages.

Black Walnut

Sometimes you just want to relax with friends. Eat great food, drink great tea/coffee. Lean back on a comfortable arm chair. Maybe get a sweet dessert. Well you can do any or all of those things at the Black Walnut Cafe. Here is one of my favorite entrees.

Chicken tenders and fries, with honey mustard and chipotle ranch dressings. The price is on the higher side, but the quality of the food pays for itself, and if you need more motivation, the large portion should be enough to serve as lunch and dinner. I'll post about their desserts and you will find out the wisdom behind rationing your entree.

Fire in the Hole!

Austinites might recognize this slogan from Pluckers. This isn't a picture of when I did the challenge, no that was too painful to showcase in public. If they hadn't put up that huge poster on the left wall right as you walk in on the Rio Grande location in west campus, you would see my picture about eye level (if you are... idk 5'6), but they did put the poster up and my picture is now gone... Sad I know, that wall just has no charm anymore...

Their wings however are as hot as ever, and delicious too boost. I got medium with lemon pepper, and it was as a little spicier then I remembered. Their cups are large so you are set to go, but the wait for a refill can be painful. If you want a great loud atmosphere, go there for any Texas game, you won't be disappointed.

Monday Mix

So I have been playing pick up soccer games on Monday nights at my gym, and it kinda runs into dinner time. So after hitting the showers I leave my gym to hit the food counter at H&H kitchen. They offer a variety of ready pre-prepared hot foods. I tend to try and get something different every week.

This week I went for 2 chicken tenders and portobello mushrooms. It's more filling then it looks, and it's also a late dinner so I usually don't over indulge.

American BBQ

American BBQ, it has grown on me over the years. Gives me a great excuse to pig out on some potato salad and coleslaw. But of course the main is the meats. Brisket and pulled pork are my go to meats.

This particular time I found myself pigging out at Dickie's BBQ in the Woodlands. Hopefully I'll find myself at Salt Lick in the near future....

Brunch Anyone?

After a long Friday night partying like crazy working, there is nothing better then sleeping in late and then going out for a great brunch.

This particular weekend I was thinking 3 eggs, spinach, Swiss cheese, bacon bits with a side of toasted English muffin.

Oh yes...

If you are wondering, its a chipotle salsa in that little silver container.

Burger FRESH!

I got a groupon for BurgerFresh, and it was terrible for my abs routine, but so worth it!
I'm not going to pretend like this was a healthy meal, but it did taste absolutely amazing. Not pictured is the strawberry milkshake from Bluebell ice cream. Below is their monstrous TexasMonthly Award  Winning Burger basket... As far as I know it doesn't go by any other name

This appetite crushing burger consists of 1/2lb. Angus patty topped w/ pepper jack cheese, avocado, bacon, grilled onions and bell peppers. All between their famous jalapeno bun.

It is not too spicy, and the avocado sweetens it up just right. If you are a sucker for burgers work up a big appetite, and get ready to hit the gym hard, because this burger belongs in your hands.
